BACKSTORY:

On September 6, 1991 militants supporting the autonomy of Chechnya stormed a meeting of the Supreme Soviet in the capital city of Grozny to assert independence from the Soviet Union. The head of the Communist Party in Grozny was killed when he was thrown from a window of the building, effectively dissolving the government.

Two months later President Boris Yeltsin sent troops to Grozny, but they were surrounded when they touched down at the airport and were forced to withdraw.

The Chechen Declaration of Independence would not go unchecked. For the next three years tens of thousands of people fled the country as the breakaway republic fell backward into civil war.

TODAY:
Beginning on December 1, 1994 Russian forces began openly bombing Chechen positions.

Today, December 11, 1994, the Russian Army deployed across the border in order to preserve the territorial integrity of Russia, with Russian generals boasting they would steamroll into Grozny in a blitzkrieg.

The First Chechen War has begun.

SPECIAL NOTES:

1. Want to help run this event? We're looking for 4 people who can help run registration and chrono. In return you get to play for free. We're also looking for 1 person to help field admin. For details and qualifications please see this thread here.

2. As of right now this is a dismounted event. No vehicles will be involved.

3. Post up below what side you want to participate on. Spare us with the cool callsigns and funky names. Just tell us who you are and we'll add you to the roster. Also please don't be a complete tool like one of those forum warriors who signs up for an event and then never shows up or bows out a day beforehand because you suddenly realized that we won't let you bring a shield to this event, which we haven't said specifically as of yet but rest assured you don't need to ask because yes Virgina there is a Santa Claus and yes airsoft player you cannot bring your shield to this event.

I can't be absolutely sure that I'll make it yet because of obligations at school, but I'll sign up for Russian forces and I'll volunteer to help with registration and chrono.

Russian ttsko woodland looks very similar to Us woodland? why not Russian use woodland and give Chechens acu or something diffrent? Sorry but i just felt I should state my opinion I will for sure be to this op rain or snow and will be kitted out in my Vdv impression!
