Spokane Airsoft and Airsoft Spokane

A few days ago someone posted in one of the forums that they were upset that we were charging for one of our skirmishes. This person thought for some reason that the skirmish was free. I couldn't figure out how that person came to that conclusion since we posted where the event was, when it would be held and how much it might cost to play.

Then someone else let me know that the reason this person was confused was because there was another group in town organizing airsoft activities for local members of the community which is great because that means there's a growing interest in airsoft in the area hopefully. The more people that are playing, the more opportunities there are for new fields, new events, not to mention that it helps local businesses like Precision Airsoft that sell airsoft weapons and gear.

Here's the dilemma. The teen who has decided to create this new organization decided to call his organization Airsoft Spokane. That's why some people might be confused between Spokane Airsoft and this organization.

Confusion isn't necessarily a good thing so here's a couple things we'd like to clear up.

Spokane Airsoft only plays on lands that we have permission to play on. We have contracted with field owners from Cheney to Colville to host airsoft skirmishes and encampments. Airsoft Spokane, however, is playing on lands such as an area near the Esmerelda Golf Course, as well as the Garden Springs area. Whether or not they have permission to play in public areas is questionable at best as the lands they are playing on fall under the control of the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department and I'd be really surprised if they have permission from the City of Spokane to play airsoft on city land.

Airsoft Spokane claims all of its events are free, which is great for the players that attend their events. However, they solicit donations from players and want to sell memorabilia and concessions to players at their events to offset the costs of such things as running their website (Which is run on a free web server so I'm not sure what the costs are there). Selling stuff means they're a business. Rich checked with the State and they don't have a business license, which means they're not a business and they're not paying taxes. Which is fine as long as you don't get caught.

On the other hand Spokane Airsoft is an LLC registered with the State of Washington. LLC means we're a business. We pay for the costs of running the website, hosting events, entering into contracts with landowners and sell goods at our events and turn a profit which is reinvested back into the community. And, as a business, we pay taxes.

One thing of particular concern is that they have a complete disregard for safety. There are no real rules for safety that their participants abide by according to their website. Anyone who has attended one of our events would know safety is a concern from registration to ENDEX.

A number of us talked over the weekend at the Open House and we felt that it was important we issue the following disclaimer that Spokane Airsoft is in no way connected with Airsoft Spokane in any way, shape or form. We say this because we do not want local law enforcement agencies to think the organizations are one and the same. They are not. We do not condone playing on public property without permissions or agreements in place allowing airsofters to do so. By playing on public land in close proximity to where people live or enjoy the outdoors they put themselves and other people at risk of injury.

Competition is good business. If they end up doing something good it will only make us work harder to do better. As an airsofter it's your choice as to where you want to play. If you want to play with Airsoft Spokane please go ahead. In fact, here's their website: airsoftspokane.webs.com. Go out and play with them if you choose but please keep in mind that Spokane Airsoft is in no way affiliated with this group, which may or may not be violating a number of state, county and city laws and if you choose to play with them you do so at your own risk.

I am in agreement of this statement and second it. It is not that we don't want people playing with this group. On the contrary, if you want to play feel free without prejudice, but keep in mind what has already been stated. If you choose to play on land without permission you play at your own risk. If you are not into rules and guidelines to keep the players and public safe then that group is for you. We at Spokane Airsoft are proud of the relationship we have built with the local Police Department and Army National Guard. We have spent a great deal of time fostering this relationship and would hate to see it tarnished by a group that is operating illegally. We are by no means affiliated with or never have been affiliated with "Airsoft Spokane". We appreciate the hard work our members put in to keep Airsoft a respectable sport and hope that we can keep airsoft viable in the years to come.

i would say power to them, as i in the past have done similar hosting for the seattle/tacoma area. However, my group has never taken donations, and have always had the permission of land owners to hold events on lands. But the thing that worries me the most about this organization is that fact that they use the term "wars". it to me just holds an air of a lack of professionalism and lack of knowledge for what we do. and this greatly concerns me.

and why is it censoring non pro fain words?

It was the word "on", which was being caught in the Profanity filter. I fixed it.

Their success will largely have to come from word-of-mouth; they are pretty much buried in the backwaters of Google's Search engine, i.e. page 20 and beyond. Even utilizing generic search terms like "Airsoft in Spokane", "Airsoft games in Spokane", or "Spokane Airsoft" the best it came up with was 4 pages in. A study determined that well over 95% of search engine users generally do not look any further past page 1. SA itself ranks either the first or second entry in on the first page.

Personally I've learned to avoid those venues that do not use at least a basic safety rule set or someone with an IQ to run the show, because I either witness a lot of blatant stupidity being performed or someone has to light the requisite joint and said blatant stupidity follows. Usually in some order like that.

The cost of attending a Spokane Airsoft event is no more than a movie, soda and popcorn, or two trips to MacDonalds. Furthermore, we've seen fellow airsofters [censored]er rides and other [censored]istan ce. I, for one, have loaned many guns, bb's and batteries to those in tight spots many times. For that you get 7 hours of great excerise, professionalism , safety, a history lesson, and a tactical education. There is a tremendous investment in weapons and load outs. Why quibble over $15 or $20 bucks?

It's a moot point now. After posting this article and speaking to some people involved in that group, Airsoft Spokane's website was removed last night.

I am a former member of the now disbanded group. we have regrouped under a new name. I hope this will alleviate any concerns you have with the similarity of names. We wanted nothing more than to go out and have fun. We wanted to be able to play without specific uniforms and guns and with very little cost. I do understand some of your concerns about having permission to play on fields and I hope we never cause any problems for any airsoft players anywhere. That is all I really wanted to say. Lets all just have fun at the sport.

Howdy Wolf. For events that are free or non typical check out "Private and Un[censored]ici al Events" under OP forum. It's a good place to post notice of your skirmishes. Check out the event at Carlin Bay on Feb 20th. It's free.

I thought the group was great. we all had a blast and i don't know what your talking about no safetly. We all had [censored] pro and covered all the limits to safety kill and range of weapons. I think you were being a little harsh at first and putting way to much drama into the matter. Either way they are a good group of guys and i will continue to play with them and any other opportunity that arises. to bad they had to change their name cause someone threatened to sue

Have fun...and by the way you are a little late on your response. They have integrated some of the nationwide rules that we also use since this discussion began. Either way thank you for your comment and have a nice day.
